Four arrested in gang-related shooting at Anaheim baby shower

Four suspects were arrested after a gang-related shooting that injured four people during a baby shower Saturday evening, Feb. 28, in Anaheim, police said.

Officers responded around 7:15 p.m. to the 2000 block of South Sprague Lane after reports of gunfire, the Anaheim Police Department said in a Tuesday statement. Investigators later determined that four gang members confronted rival gang members who were attending a baby shower in the courtyard at the address.

Police said the suspects were armed with two handguns and an AR-style firearm and opened fire into the crowd. Three juvenile gang members and an adult bystander were struck.

The three minors were taken to a local hospital, treated for their injuries and listed as stable, police said. The adult bystander was treated at the scene and did not require further medical attention.

The suspects fled on foot before officers arrived. They were later identified as three juveniles and an 18-year-old Anaheim resident.

On Sunday, March 1, investigators located and arrested two of the suspects in Whittier. During the arrests, officers recovered an AR-style firearm and an unserialized black semiautomatic handgun believed to have been used in the shooting. Police also served a search warrant at a residence, where additional ammunition was recovered.

The remaining two suspects were located and arrested the following day in Santa Ana. Additional evidence was recovered during a search warrant at another residence, police said.

All four suspects face charges including attempted murder, conspiracy, aggravated assault, weapons violations and gang enhancements.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Anaheim Police Department or submit an anonymous tip to OC Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.
