Seal Beach increases parking rates at three beach lots

Visitors to Seal Beach may have to fork over a few extra bucks to park at beach lots.

The city of Seal Beach earned approval from the California Coastal Commission on Wednesday, May 7, to hike parking fees at the 1st Street, 8th Street and 10th Street parking lots.

The fees will go from $2 per hour, with a daily maximum of $10, to $3 per hour, with a daily maximum of $15.

After 6 p.m., the rate will be a $4 flat fee at the public lots. A signage plan is in place.

The city needed the Coastal Commission’s approval because the lots are set on public trust lands owned by the State Lands Commission and leased to the city.

The proposed parking rates are comparable to fees charged at other city, state and county beaches in the vicinity, including Los Angeles County beach lots and several State Park parking lots in Orange County, according to the staff report.

Any future rate increases, however, could have an adverse impact on public coastal access, the report said.
