Four men were arrested Thursday, May 14, on suspicion of being involved in the slaying of a man in downtown Huntington Beach last year, authorities said Thursday, May 15.

The men were accused in the Sept. 25 fatal shooting of Rozzalle Hellens, 29, of Anaheim, about 2 a.m. near Main Street and Olive Avenue, Huntington Beach police spokeswoman Jessica Cuchilla said.

The Longboard Restaurant & Pub, a day after the shooting, posted on social media that the shooting occurred in front of their building on Main Street, just south of Olive Avenue.

Details about how the four suspects were identified and tied to the homicide were not disclosed. The suspects, all Huntington Beach residents, are:

  • Arnaldo Malaca, 33,
  • Michael Cardoso, 29,
  • Roberto Lopez, 25, and
  • Jesus Torres-Martinez, 22.

Police arrived at the scene of the shooting to find Hellens suffering from significant injuries. Hellens died at a hospital.

All four suspects were arrested on suspicion of murder, conspiracy and criminal street gang activity, Cuchilla said.

Malaca was arrested on additional suspected charges of carrying a concealed firearm and carrying a concealed firearm in public, while the other three men were each suspected of being an accessory after the fact.

All four were being held on $1 million bail, Cuchilla said.

A motive and additional circumstances surrounding the homicide were not released by police.

The four men are scheduled to make their first court appearances Friday.
