Disneyland celebrates 70th anniversary all across Anaheim

Disneyland meet-and-greet characters and employee volunteers hit the road to visit with school children, senior citizens and military veterans across Anaheim in honor of the theme park’s 70th anniversary celebration.

Disneyland’s 70 Happiest Hours in Anaheim event visited 15 different locations across the city during the three-day tour held late last week.

“This is our way to say thank you for being amazing partners and neighbors to us at the Disneyland resort,” Disneyland Ambassador Jada Young said during the event in a video posted to Disneyland’s Instagram account.

Disneyland handed out free ice cream, popcorn, books, movie posters and plush dolls during stops at city parks, schools, libraries, community centers, hospitals, fire stations, police stations and high school football games on the cross-city tour.

Disney hosted a Block Party Bash at Anaheim’s Ponderosa Park with a live band, games, giveaways and a surprise appearance by a few Disney princesses.

The 800 kids at Anaheim’s Crescent Elementary kicked off the first day of the school year with a Disney-themed breakfast bash that included a free Mickey Mouse plush doll for every student.

“Kingdom Keepers” author Ridley Pearson read to third and fourth graders at Anaheim’s Ponderosa Elementary from his latest young adult Disney novel.

A live band played hits from the 1960s during a Disney Sock Hop thrown for Anaheim senior citizens at the Brookhurst Community Center.

Donald Duck and Daisy Duck surprised the 100 kids at the Boys and Girls Club of Anaheim when they stopped by to snap selfies with club members.

Goofy and Pluto served a hot breakfast to fire fighters at Anaheim Fire Station #3 to thank them for their service.

Disney VoluntEars read Disney stories during toddler story time at Anaheim’s Sunkist Library followed by a bubble dance party. Each kid went home with a plush Mickey Mouse.

Mickey Mouse surprised a chamber singing class with a check for $50,000 to support the program at Anaheim High School.

Ten veterans from the Walnut Village senior living community in Anaheim were honored during a special flag retreat ceremony at Disneyland’s Town Square.

Mickey and Minnie stopped by the pediatric unit at Kaiser Permanente Anaheim Medical Center to meet with patients and their families.

Officer Calvin Blue — one of the Buena Vista Street characters at Disney California Adventure — issued citations to Anaheim Police officers for good behavior during a visit to the Anaheim Police Department. Chip ‘n’ Dale were also on hand in their own police uniforms to pose for photo ops with officers.

More than 50 kids in the Tiny Tots Academy at Anaheim’s Brookhurst Community Center played games like ring toss and parachute before meeting Mickey Mouse.

The Disneyland Band joined the Katella High School Band for a rendition of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” during halftime of the Katella-Santa Ana Valley high school football game at Anaheim’s Glover Stadium.
