Two teenage boys were critically injured in a collision with a car as they rode an electric scooter together in Orange on Tuesday afternoon, April 1, police said.
Officers responded around 2:05 p.m. after the boys, who were riding the scooter against traffic, crashed into the front passenger’s side of a northbound Tesla at Hewes Street and Via Lardo Avenue, according to the Orange Police Department.
The boys were not wearing helmets, and were transported to a hospital in critical condition, police said.
The driver of the Tesla cooperated with the investigation.
Orange police Lt. Phil McMullin said anyone riding an electric scooter should wear a helmet, ride one person per vehicle and watch road conditions.
“They need to be paying attention,” McMullin said. “They need to be mindful and obeying the rules of road.”
Police are continuing to investigate the crash and ask anyone with information to call detectives at 714-744-7342.
